Ijazah Program

Perfect Your Recitation. Preserve the Chain of Transmission.

Hamd Institute’s Ijāzah Program is an advanced track designed exclusively for Huffādh who seek to perfect their tajwīd and earn a formal Ijāzah in Qur’ān recitation.

Students study directly under qualified instructors who hold recognized isnād, connecting them through an unbroken chain of transmission back to the Prophet ﷺ.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must have completed Hifdh and demonstrate strong fluency along with foundational knowledge of tajwīd.

This program is a journey of refinement, precision, and spiritual elevation through the Book of Allah.

Qur’ān Ijāzah in Recitation (Hafs ʿan ʿĀsim)

Upon completing a full, evaluated khatm and fulfilling all program requirements, students are awarded an official Ijāzah certificate.

This certification verifies mastery in Qur’ān recitation and affirms the student’s readiness to teach with an authenticated chain of transmission.

Unlike traditional academic programs, the Ijāzah track is not divided by academic years. Students begin working toward their certification from day one, progressing at a pace appropriate to their skill, consistency, and diligence.

1. Full Khatm Recitation (Start Immediately)

Students begin reciting their entire Qur’ān (khatm) to the instructor from the first week. Focus areas include:

  • Eliminating major and subtle errors
  • Strengthening makhārij and ṣifāt
  • Refining fluency, flow, and consistency
  • Polishing melody and beautification (ḥusn al-ṣawt)
  • Building the precision expected of an authorized reciter

Completion of the full khatm is required before receiving the Ijāzah.

2. Tuḥfat al-Aṭfāl Class & Memorization

All students attend structured lessons that include:

  • Study of Tuḥfat al-Aṭfāl (the classical tajwīd poem)
  • Full memorization of the poem
  • Explanation and practical application of its rules during recitation

This ensures students not only recite correctly but understand the foundational tajwīd framework behind their practice.

3. Practical Teaching & Transmission Skills

Throughout the program, students are trained to:

  • Correct other students’ recitation
  • Teach tajwīd systematically
  • Understand the etiquette (adab) and responsibility of holding an isnād
  • Uphold the spiritual discipline expected of Qur’ān teachers

Graduates Will Be Equipped To:

  • Teach Qur’ān and tajwīd with confidence and sound methodology
  • Lead prayers and tarāwīḥ with polished and precise recitation
  • Mentor aspiring Huffāẓ in structured review and refinement
  • Maintain and preserve the Qur’ānic chain of transmission (isnād)
  • Pursue advanced qirāʾāt studies (optional pathway)
  • Serve as qualified reciters and educators in masājid and Islamic programs

Admission into the Ijāzah Program is selective to ensure students meet the level of mastery required for advanced Qur’ānic study. All applicants must complete the following steps:

1. Application Submission

Prospective students submit:

  • Basic personal information
  • Previous Qur’ān study background
  • Confirmation of full ḥifẓ

2. Preliminary Screening

The Hamd team reviews the application to verify that the applicant has completed full memorization of the Qur’ān and meets the minimum eligibility requirements.

3. Qur’ān Evaluation with a Shaykh

Eligible applicants are scheduled for a live recitation assessment with one of our qualified shuyūkh. The evaluation includes:

  • Selected portions of the Qur’ān recited from memory
  • Assessment of makhārij and ṣifāt
  • Overall fluency and stability in recitation
  • Foundational tajwīd knowledge
  • Ability to maintain consistency under supervision

4. Acceptance Decision

Based on the assessment, the Shaykh determines whether the applicant is prepared for the rigor and precision of the Ijāzah track.

Applicants who meet the required standard are formally admitted into the program. Those needing additional preparation may be advised to strengthen their tajwīd or complete corrective review before reapplying.

The Ijāzah Program is designed to accommodate dedicated students while maintaining the consistency required for mastery. All students attend two weekly sessions:

📅 Saturday Morning Session

  • Tajwīd refinement
  • Instructor feedback and correction
  • Tuhfat al-Aṭfāl lessons (when in session)
